The last few days, I have not really been able to get out into the garden due to the job that actually pays the bills. Monday, I worked from 9.30am to 2.30am (not a typo). Tuesday, I worked from 9.30am to midnight. Yesterday, I worked from 9am until 5.35am. So – yeah. Not much time for anything else, really.
So, I really expected a mess when I went out there, today. Mike had been doing his best to at least make sure the water got going; but, gardening is my thing, not his. Thanks to him, at least the plants were still alive.
Not just alive – apparently, the dill and bronze fennel have been turned into housing units.
Now, understand, I only have a single dill plant because we do not eat much dill. I pretty much just use it in pickling. So, it is nice but small…and, apparently covered in caterpillars.
So – there was no way the one, small fern leaf dill plant I have was going to be even remotely enough for these guys to make it. Even if they were munching on the fennel, too.
So, I texted my neighbours to see if they had any parsley or dill I could move some of these little guys to. They did not. Next, came calls to the various nurseries around the area.
I found one – they had twelve plants. Nine parsley and three dill plants. None of them were overly impressive; but, any port, right? So, I scamper all the way over there (45 min or so drive) and grab the plants up and get back to the garden and drop the plants in where I had intended to put a couple fall crops. And, I wicked crammed them in close together to give the cats some kind of support given the plants are not exactly mature.
I moved some of the cats over to the parsley and they seem quite content with their new digs. Here is hoping it is enough for them to make it to their next stage. I look forwards to seeing them fluttering around.
