Earth’s Anguish

Written circa 1986 by yours truly

The thunder rolled
With a resounding roar
The lightning struck,
The sky it tore.

The rain came down
In a punishing spray
The clouds were low
A deep coal gray

The Earth wept
For Her ruined air
She wept greatly
For soil, split and tear

The Earth cried out
In defeated anguish toil
At the radiation
Wrought on once fertile soil

Fire and ash were wrought
That’s all She is, now
Why, oh, please tell me
Why had Her children fought?
